Job Description

Who We Are Looking For

At Launch Charter School, we believe that strong school culture is the foundation for academic success. We are seeking a Middle School Assistant Principal of Culture and Student Support who is passionate about restorative practices, student wellness, and inclusive, equitable discipline. This leader must be a strategic thinker, a relationship builder, and a champion for student voice, social-emotional learning, and community partnerships.

Key Values & Beliefs

  • Every student deserves to feel safe, valued, and empowered at school.

  • Restorative justice is more effective than punitive discipline in fostering long-term behavioral growth.

  • Student behavior is a form of communication, and support systems must be proactive, not reactive.

  • Families are essential partners in student development and success.

  • Adult culture shapes student culture—staff must model kindness, high expectations, and accountability.
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Restorative Leadership – Skilled in implementing restorative practices and conflict resolution strategies.

  • Behavioral Systems & Data – Ability to build and manage schoolwide behavior systems, analyze discipline data, and plan responsive actions.

  • Student Support Systems – Knowledge of MTSS, trauma-informed care, and SEL implementation.

  • Family Partnership & Communication – Strong communication skills to partner with families in moments of celebration and challenge.

  • Staff Development – Ability to coach staff in classroom management, behavior norms, and inclusive culture-building strategies.

  • Equity & Inclusion – Deep commitment to racial equity, identity-affirming practices, and culturally responsive discipline.

  • Crisis Management – Calm and confident in de-escalating conflict and supporting students in moments of crisis.
Key Responsibilities

1. School Culture & Restorative Practices

  • Lead the implementation of restorative practices, including circles, conflict resolution conversations, and re-entry meetings.

  • Manage and refine school wide behavior systems to ensure consistency, clarity, and equity in student expectations.

  • Partner with teachers to establish strong classroom norms and routines rooted in kindness, collaboration, and mutual respect.

  • Facilitate professional development and coaching cycles on restorative approaches and positive classroom management.

  • Co-lead student assemblies, celebrations, and initiatives that affirm identity and build community.

2. Student Support & Behavior Response

  • Supervise a student support team responsible for daily behavior response, check-ins/check-outs, and student mentoring.

  • Track student behavior data to identify trends, ensure follow-up, and plan Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

  • Serve as the lead responder for behavioral incidents, ensuring that student dignity is preserved and that consequences support reflection and restoration.

  • Oversee the development and implementation of individual behavior plans and student support interventions.

  • Manage the Promotion in Doubt (PID) list in collaboration with the AP of Academics to ensure students with behavioral and academic concerns receive holistic support.
3. Family Engagement & Partnership
  • Communicate proactively with families about student behavior, growth, and celebrations.

  • Facilitate family conferences and restorative conversations in collaboration with teachers.

  • Build systems for frequent home-school communication, especially for students receiving behavior interventions.

  • Lead schoolwide family initiatives around culture, character, and student wellness.

4. Student Leadership & Voice

  • Manage the student government, Peacekeepers, or similar student leadership initiatives that promote ownership and voice.

  • Support student-led initiatives and community-building projects that foster belonging and civic engagement.

  • Ensure that all students—particularly those furthest from opportunity—have access to leadership, celebration, and growth opportunities.
5. Staff & Systems Leadership
  • Lead school wide morning meetings, hallway transitions, arrival/dismissal routines, and lunchroom systems.

  • Coach teachers and staff on implementing consistent systems that maximize instructional time and student dignity.

  • Collaborate with the Ops team on scheduling, space planning, and logistics for culture-related events and transitions.

  • Attend and participate in the School Leadership Team (SLT) and contribute to continuous school improvement.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be:

  • Holder of a Bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of teaching or student support experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.

  • Experienced in implementing restorative justice practices and building school wide behavior systems.

  • Knowledgeable in trauma-informed practices, social-emotional learning, and culturally responsive pedagogy.

  • Committed to equity, inclusion, and student empowerment.

  • Skilled at coaching, communication, and collaboration across diverse teams.
