The Independent Office of Audits and Investigations (IOAI) is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel.

Under the general direction of the Inspector General (IG), the Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel (ACC) is responsible for overseeing day to day operations of the Legal unit, including supervising and supporting a team of attorneys, managing their workload, interacting with and advising clients, and representing the IG and Independent Office of Audits and Investigations (IOAI) in various settings. The ACC researches, analyzes, interprets and applies laws, court decisions, regulations and other authorities to identify and assess legal risk management, and to provide legal advice, opinions, and briefs. The ACC handles a variety of house counsel work and oversight of litigation involving IOAI and the IG as a party. In addition, the ACC advises and represents the IG regarding internal personnel issues. Attorneys at this level have developed extensive experience regarding audits and investigations, including specific knowledge of contract and employment law. This position requires a high degree of integrity and ethics to further the IG's goals to implement and manage an independent audit and investigation program.

Working Conditions

Position located at 1304 O St, Suite 200, Sacramento, Sacramento County.

Employee will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting and must be able to travel to meetings.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of IOAI and is based on Caltrans' evolving telework policy. IOAI supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, or primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
