The Human Health & Performance Systems Group develops human-centered technologies to overcome operational challenges and to enhance human capability in domains of interest to national security. Our research programs focus on innovative and objective solutions in the areas of integrated wearable systems, human-machine teaming, enhanced communications, neurocognitive analytics, and medical technologies. Our group is highly interdisciplinary and includes scientific experts in physiology, cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, biomechanics, computer science, engineering, and physics. Our core technical competencies include system-level modeling and gap analysis, advanced sensing and signal processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, computational modeling, hardware and software prototyping, model-based systems engineering, and human data collection in laboratory and field environments.

 

Job Description

 

Our team is looking for a new staff member with an interest in solving challenging biomedical engineering and neuroscience problems. You would work with and lead multi-disciplinary teams consisting of engineers, scientists, and end user communities (e.g., clinicians, pilots, military personnel) to develop technologies across all the mission areas in our group: training and education, human augmentation, health and resilience, and medical operations. We are looking for self-motivated candidates who are interested in developing analyzing, designing, and optimizing complex socio-technical systems.

 

Requirements

 

Ph.D. or equivalent in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or neural engineering. M.S. or M.Eng. with 5 or more years of relevant experience will also be considered.

• Experience analyzing, designing, and optimizing biomedical signal processing systems, particularly in neurophysiological and neural engineering applications
• Expertise in physiological signal processing, including eye tracking, EEG, fNIRS, EMG, and other neurophysiological modalities, as well as voice and speech analysis
• Proficiency in programming for biomedical data analysis (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar tools)
• Experience developing and implementing algorithms for neural signal analysis
• Strong understanding of neuroscience fundamentals and neurocognitive analytics

• Experimental design and human subject data collection for neuroscience research
• Experience with wearable neurotechnology development and integration
• Computational neuroscience modeling and simulation
• Understanding of neural biomarkers, neural pathways, and clinically-relevant signals
• Experience with advanced neural imaging systems (e.g., EEG, fMRI, MEG, or similar)
• Proficiency in real-time signal processing and hardware/software prototyping for neural systems
• Experience with physiological state monitoring and neurofeedback systems
• Experience working on neurotechnology applications in healthcare, human performance, or defense environments
