About the Role:
Melba Support Services are actively recruiting for casual Disability Support Workers roles to join our team across Ballarat.
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Workers to empower individuals with disabilities by providing person-centred, active support. In this role, you will engage with individuals to understand their unique needs and preferences, ensuring their safety and upholding their human rights.
You will communicate effectively, including supporting alternative and augmentative communication when required. Your responsibilities will include implementing tailored support plans, assisting with daily living activities (such as personal care, household tasks, and community participation), and promoting social connections. You will also administer medication within your scope of practice and collaborate with families, service providers, and support networks to ensure seamless care.

Responsibilities:
· Engage with individuals to understand their unique needs and preferences, providing safe, person-directed support that upholds their human rights.
· Communicate in a meaningful way, including supporting alternative and augmentative communication systems when required.
· Implement tailored support plans and report any issues or concerns as they arise.
· Provide Person-Centred Active Support to assist with daily living activities, including personal care, household tasks, and community participation.
· Support individuals in developing and maintaining social relationships, attending social events, and participating in work or education.
· Advocate for personal choice and autonomy while administering medication and providing health supports within scope of practice.
· Collaborate with families, support networks, and service providers to ensure continuity of care while actively engaging in ongoing professional development.
· Overnight shifts (active or sleepover) are essential. Weekend shifts are available.
Qualifications and Experience:
· Certificate IV in Disability (desirable but not mandatory).
· Experience or willingness to learn personal care support skills across all areas of life.
· Genuine commitment to promoting inclusion and community participation for people with disabilities.
· Strong networking skills to engage with a diverse range of people, including community members.
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to maintain accurate and legible records.
· Proactive, accountable, and adaptable, with the ability to navigate challenges and drive positive change.
· Team-oriented mindset, with a willingness to collaborate and build strong, positive relationships.
Requirements
· A current NDIS Worker Screening and Working with Children Check (we can support you through the process of obtaining one or both checks if you don’t already have them).
· Current First Aid Certificate with CPR
· Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status, including booster
