In-House Landscape Architecture staffing position for FDOT District 4

Cotleur & Hearing is looking for a licensed landscape architect who is eager to grow their skills and take on exciting challenges working for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 4, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as an in-house landscape architect. Work with the District 4 Landscape Manager daily to execute the Landscape Architecture Unit’s goal and objectives. About The Role

Job Description:

  • Manage One Stop Permits for Landscaping activities; including plan reviews, revision requests, agreements and letters of obligation.
  • Manage Beautification Grant permit Program; including plan and application reviews, processing, and JPAs.
  • Assist with all other landscape related inquiries as requested or directed by the District Landscape Manager (DLM).
  • Attend coordination meetings with the DLM to review and provide feedback on district landscape projects.


Skills And Experience

  • Candidates need landscape architecture technical experience in transportation plans and landscape architectural plan permitting.
  • High level of organizational skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate technical information in a professional manner.
  • Strong knowledge of landscape plan preparation and construction projects.
  • Ability to review landscape plans, cost estimates, and permit submittals.
  • Competency in reading and understanding 2D construction documents (Landscape, Site, Survey, and Civil).
  • Experience with quality control plan reviews.
  • Ability to manage and meet concurrent deadlines to ensure FDOT project submittal schedules are met.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and can confidently add creative design ideas.
  • Positive work ethic and shall have the ability to work independently as well as within a team structure.
  • Ability to travel (as-needed) to conduct and document field visits and site investigation.
  • Ability to relocate or commute to the Fort Lauderdale area.
  • State Highway Beautification Grant Experience or other Landscape Grant Experience a plus.


Computer And Software Skills

  • Required: High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Required: High Level of proficiency in Adobe PDF editing software and/or Bluebeam.
  • Required: High Level of proficiency in AutoCADD. LandFX experience a plus.
  • Preferred: Experience working with Bentley MicroStation.
  • Preferred: ArcGIS experience or familiarity.
  • Bonus: Experience working with FDOT programs and applications, including Collaborative Tool, Electronic Review Comment System (ERC), Project Suite Enterprise Edition.
  • Bonus: Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Suite experience.
  • Bonus: Trimble Sketchup experience.


Job Type: Full-time, In person

Schedule: 8-hours per day, Monday through Friday (40-hours per week)
