 Job Requirements 
 Age: Must be at least 21 years old. Applicants must be under 35 at the time of testing unless exempt under specific Illinois statutes. 
 Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or hold DACA status. 
 Education: High School diploma or GED required. Candidates with an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or any other field may earn 5 preference points and a 5% pay increase. Unofficial transcripts must be submitted upon request. 
 Driver's License: Valid state-issued driver's license required. 
 Vision: 20/40 corrected vision, free of color blindness. 
 Certification: Must obtain academy certification within six months of hire. 
 Residency: Must reside within 35 miles of the village limits within one year of hire. 
 Firearm Eligibility: Authorized to obtain, carry, purchase, or possess a firearm under federal law. 
 Additional Requirements: Must pass the State standard P.O.W.E.R. Test by the final eligibility list posting date. 
 Hiring Process 
 Application: Submit a completed application. 
 Written Examination: Complete the National Testing Network exam with a passing score of 75%. 
 Oral Interview(s): Participate in the interview process. 
 Background Check: Comprehensive background investigation. 
 Polygraph Test: Administered to eligible candidates. 
 Conditional Offer: Upon a conditional offer, candidates must pass psychological and medical examinations, including a drug screening. 
 Preference Points 
 Up to 5 preference points may be awarded for the following qualifications: 
 Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in law enforcement or criminal justice. 
 Experience: Certification as an Illinois Police Officer with current employment in a law enforcement role in Illinois. 
 Military Service: At least one year of honorable military service or current inactive/reserve status. 
 Community Service Officer: At least one year of continuous employment as a community service officer for the Village of Carpentersville. 
 Salary and Specialty Assignments 
 Salary: $75,319 starting, up to $109,491 after seven years with an education incentive; $79,116 starting, up to $115,011 without the education incentive. 
 Holiday Pay: $2,166 - $3,176 annually with education incentive; $2,066 - $3,024 without. 
 Sick Incentive: $600 annually. 
 Longevity: $50 per year of service, capped at 20 years. 
 Specialty Assignments (Available after two years of service): 
 Detective, Special Operations Group, FBI Task Force, Homeland Security Task Force, Warrant Service Team, K9 Handler, SWAT, Firearms Instructor, Mobile Field Force, Drone Operator, Major Accident/Crimes Investigation Task Force, Field Training Officer, Honor Guard, School Resource Officer, and Evidence Technician.
