HANA MAKGEOLLI (hananmakgeolli.com; @hanamakgeolli) is a Korean rice wine brewery based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We are the first and only domestic producer of artisanal Korean rice wines here in the US. Our wines showcase the breadth of the Korean sool category and are made with organic rice, using natural and traditional Korean brewing methodologies. We are currently preparing to expand production capacity and looking for Production Assistants to join our team! 

Role 

The Production Assistant will assist our team in all aspects of winemaking and production responsibilities. The ideal candidate is determined, detail oriented, has a flexible schedule and a positive attitude. They take initiative and seek new knowledge while accepting direction. As a member of the production team, the production assistant has a solid work ethic and is committed to maintaining high sanitation standards. They are also capable of insightful and creative problem-solving. This role is for someone interested in all aspects of winemaking, fermentation and Korean sool. 

  • Approximately 15-25 hours a week (varies based on production schedule) 
  • Required to work from brewery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn 

Responsibilities

  • Work with the production manager to assist the head brewer with wine production: this includes rice washing, brewing, filtering, bottling preparation and coordination of bottling runs, kegging/ keg cleaning, pasteurization, brewhouse CIP/maintenance and general cleaning and upkeep 
  • CIP Tanks and equipment used in production of wine, as well as end of production day brewhouse cleaning.
  • Assist in packaging of wine including working on bottling line, palletizing wine and labeling bottles.
  • Perform regular maintenance on brewery tanks, equipments, and tools
  • Maintain meticulous records and brew logs
  • Adhere to all safety regulations when handling chemicals and brewing equipment.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and work with a flexible schedule around the needs of a brew 
  • Represent Hana Makgeolli 

Qualifications

  • 1+ years commercial brewing or wine making experience is required for this positing. Candidates with the following experience/skills will be selected:
    • Experience with 5 BBLS+ systems
    • Basic cellar sanitization knowledge 
    • CIP and pump operation knowledge 
    • Experience bottling and packaging
  • Is highly organized and has exceptional, proactive verbal communication 
  • Has a positive, optimistic attitude and is professional and fun, even in high stress situations
  • Has excellent time management skills and is self-motivated
  • Resourceful, enthusiastic and willing to help with large and small tasks.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, anticipating needs and assisting wherever is needed. 
  • Adapts quickly to new technology and processes
  • Must be willing and able to work a variable shift schedule that is dependent upon the operational needs of the brewery, which could include weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts
  • Arrives on time and is willing to work with the team until the job is finished. 
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 75lbs efficiently and safely 
  • Able to work on feet for extended periods of time standing, walking or lifting. 
  • Ability to work with pallet jacks and forklifts 
  • Passionate about Korean sool, winemaking, breweries and fermentation of all kinds. 
  • 21 years old or over
