The Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech) is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays and fluoroscopy, to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. The Rad Tech ensures high-quality imaging while prioritizing patient safety, radiation protection, and proper positioning techniques. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to interact with patients and the healthcare team effectively.
Key Responsibilities:Diagnostic Imaging: Perform high-quality X-ray, fluoroscopy, and other radiographic procedures as ordered by physicians.
Patient Positioning & Safety: Properly position patients to obtain optimal images while ensuring comfort and minimizing radiation exposure.
Radiation Protection: Follow ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to protect patients, staff, and oneself from unnecessary radiation exposure.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate and calibrate imaging equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and report malfunctions.
Image Quality Assurance: Review and evaluate images for clarity, accuracy, and proper exposure before submitting them for physician interpretation.
Patient Care & Communication: Explain procedures to patients, provide reassurance, and answer questions to reduce anxiety.
EMR & PACS Documentation: Accurately document patient information, imaging procedures, and scan results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnoses and patient care.
Sterile Techniques & Infection Control: Maintain a clean and sterile environment, adhering to hospital policies and infection control protocols.
Emergency Response Support: Assist in trauma and emergency situations requiring rapid imaging for critically ill or injured patients.
Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program.
Licensure & Certification: ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification required; state licensure as applicable.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience preferred (new graduates may be considered for entry-level positions).
Skills: Strong knowledge of radiographic anatomy, positioning, and radiation safety.
Experience with advanced imaging procedures (CT, MRI, or Interventional Radiology).
Familiarity with PACS and EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.
Hospital, outpatient clinic, or imaging center setting.
Requires standing, lifting, and assisting patients throughout shifts.
Exposure to radiation, infectious diseases, and bodily fluids (with protective measures in place).
Rotating shifts, on-call hours, weekends, and holiday requirements based on facility needs.
