DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
The Research Assistant 2 is expected to follow the process of digitizing pathology slides, which includes several key steps:
Preparation : The glass slides containing tissue samples are carefully prepared and cleaned to ensure they are free of dust and debris. This step is crucial for obtaining clear and accurate digital images.
Scanning : The prepared slides are placed into a high-resolution scanner. These scanners are specifically designed for pathology slides and can capture detailed images at various magnifications. The scanning process converts the physical slides into digital images, often referred to as whole slide images (WSIs).
Image Processing : Once scanned, the digital images undergo processing to enhance their quality. This may include adjusting brightness, contrast, and color balance to ensure the images accurately represent the original slides.
Metadata Capture : Along with the digital images, relevant metadata such as patient information, slide identification numbers, and staining details are captured and linked to the images. This metadata is essential for organizing and retrieving the digital slides.
Storage : The digitized slides and their associated metadata are stored in a secure digital repository. This repository allows for easy access, retrieval, and sharing of the slides among pathologists and researchers.
Quality Control : A quality control check is performed to ensure that the digitized slides meet the required standards. Any slides that do not meet these standards may be rescanned or adjusted as needed.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
