PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Journalist, historian, and Scripps College alumna and Trustee Suzanne Ely Muchnic '62 is currently authoring a history of the College, to be published by 2026 to coincide with Scripps' 100th anniversary. The College is seeking a Research Assistant for this project. Reporting to the Office of Marketing and Communications, the Research Assistant will research, locate, digitize as needed, and upload digital image files for the book.
Main sources for images include the Claremont Colleges Digital Library (CCDL) and the College's Ella Strong Denison Library image archives. Use of other resources at Scripps, across The Claremont Colleges, and beyond, should also be explored. Sources may include books, magazines, newspapers, and website pages.
The ideal candidate will be interested in learning about Scripps' history and passionate about helping to tell the story of the College. They will be organized, a self-starter, and have strong analytical and writing skills as well as a rigorous attention to detail. Resourceful and creative, they will understand how to navigate and use libraries, archives, administrative records, photo collections, and published and unpublished resources in order to gather relevant images. Topics covered in the book include academic departments, athletics, campus buildings, the Core curriculum, and commencement speakers as well as student clubs and organizations, government, and traditions.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:
This is a temporary status, part-time (no more than 20 hours per week), non-benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.
Hours will vary due to needs of the College or department. This assignment is expected to end on or before January 31, 2025. The assignment may be extended upon mutual agreement of both parties.
Hourly rate range: $17.00-$18.00. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
