Job Description

A note from the owner: Let me start with what you might find important. We have made some accounting errors in how we set up our company. Example, we were charging sales tax on labor and we just realized that mistake. In the discovery of our many other mistakes, we have realized the oversight of not placing a higher level of importance of hiring an in-house accounting person/team. This role is going to be a bit of a project at first. Learning our systems, learning our COGS and understanding how we need to invoice. Then helping us understand in what way we need to train our staff. We can do the training. We are a very hands on ownership group. We have been working together for a very long time in other industries and this was a new venture for all of us. We are facts based, empathetic owners who strive to help our team and get them what they need to thrive in their job.


Working Remote : It needs to be a balanced approach for awhile. There is going to be a few months at the beginning where we need you here at the office to help us and this allow us to get you answers quickly. We then expect a hybrid position to form and offer you more flexibility. We understand Gainesville can be a little bit of a commute for some people.

About Us:
Abel Door & Trim is a fast-growing supplier and manufacturer serving home builders across Texas. Since launching in 2021, we’ve expanded from lumber supply into doors, trim, and pre-hung door manufacturing, with plans to add additional services and products. As we continue to scale, we are looking for a strong financial leader to build and oversee our accounting function from the ground up.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager/Controller to manage all accounting and finance responsibilities for the company. This is a unique opportunity to step into a role where you will handle all accounting functions independently at first, with the potential to grow into building and leading an accounting team as the company expands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and manage monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, and budgets.
  • Handle invoicing, collections, and vendor payments.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide reporting to ownership.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support financial planning and analysis to guide company growth and expansion.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external CPA firm, banks, and auditors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA a plus but not required).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a small or mid-sized business.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar ERP experience required).
  • Ability to work independently, with a hands-on approach to all accounting tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with owners, vendors, and external partners.
