Job Description

We’re looking for a skilled Concrete Finisher to join our growing team. This mid-level role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of concrete finishing techniques who takes pride in producing clean, durable, and compliant work. You’ll work independently and as part of a crew to deliver high-quality finishes on sidewalks, ramps, slabs, and more.

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform flatwork, ramps, slabs, and structural pours with minimal supervision.
  • Use hand and power tools to apply broom, trowel, exposed aggregate, and stamped finishes.
  • Ensure ADA slope compliance and quality control throughout all phases of finishing.
  • Read and interpret slope callouts, finish plans, and project specs.
  • Operate screeds and apply curing/sealing agents as required.
  • Mentor Level I Finishers and support crew productivity.
  • Maintain your tools and keep the worksite clean and organized.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE on-site.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in concrete finishing and flatwork.
  • Proficiency with finishing tools (trowels, floats, edgers, screeds, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of concrete behavior and finishing timing.
  • Ability to read slope and finish requirements, including ADA standards.
  • Physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs and work in outdoor conditions year-round.
  • Reliable, safety-conscious, and team-oriented.
  • OSHA 10 Certification and ADA Ramp Compliance Training preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Concrete Finisher II

Job Summary

Concrete Finisher II is a mid-level position responsible for independently performing a wide range of concrete finishing tasks with precision and consistency. Individuals in this role are expected to understand concrete behavior, execute a variety of finish types, and ensure work meets project specifications, including ADA compliance. Finisher II professionals must bring and maintain their own tools, accurately interpret slope requirements or plan callouts, and coordinate with crews to ensure quality control throughout the finishing process. This role requires a balance of technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to support and guide less experienced finishers while maintaining safety and productivity on site.

 

Concrete Finishers are also representatives of Beck Construction & Excavation, Inc. and are expected to uphold a strong work ethic, follow safety guidelines, and demonstrate professionalism while on job sites. This role offers on-the-job training and the opportunity to learn and grow within the construction field.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform placement, leveling, and finishing of concrete for flatwork, sidewalks, ramps, slabs, and structural pours with minimal supervision.
  • Use hand tools (trowels, floats, edgers, jointers) and power tools to create specified surface finishes such as broom, trowel, exposed aggregate, and stamped concrete.
  • Set up and operate screeds (roller, vibrating) and ensure proper concrete consolidation and surface preparation.
  • Apply curing agents, sealers, and surface treatments as specified in project plans.
  • Read and interpret slope callouts, finish types, and plan specifications to ensure compliance with job requirements.
  • Verify and maintain ADA slope compliance, including ramps and cross slopes, during and after finishing operations.
  • Recognize and respond to concrete setting conditions, identifying the correct timing and techniques for finishing.
  • Support quality control by ensuring uniform surface appearance, proper drainage slope, and adherence to finish specs.
  • Communicate clearly with foreman and crew members to coordinate tasks and resolve site issues as needed.
  • Mentor and assist team members to promote crew development and job efficiency.
  • Maintain and care for personal tools and assist in maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and jobsite procedures.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform concrete placement and finishing tasks with consistency and minimal supervision.
  • Skilled in operating finishing tools including trowels, floats, edgers, kneeboards, and screeds.
  • Must bring and maintain a personal set of finishing tools appropriate for daily work.
  • Ability to identify correct timing and techniques for various finish types (e.g., broom, trowel, stamped, exposed aggregate).
  • Strong understanding of concrete behavior during finishing, including working time, curing stages, and surface tolerances.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret slope requirements, finish plans, and ADA ramp specifications.
  • Ability to support and guide Level I finishers as needed without formal leadership responsibilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on producing clean, durable, and code-compliant finished surfaces.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting 50+ pounds, working on your feet for extended periods, and safely navigating uneven or changing terrain.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to think and respond quickly in dynamic construction environments.
  • Comfortable with repetitive physical movements including bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in outdoor environments year-round.
  • Dependable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Willing to assist with a variety of crew tasks as needed to support project progress.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license; may be required based on job site location and transportation needs.
  • OSHA 10 Construction Safety Certification 
  • ADA Ramp Compliance Training/Certification
  • Additional training or certification may be required as determined by project scope or company standards.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, crawl, and lift or move materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Regularly works outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • May be exposed to dust, dirt, loud noise, uneven surfaces, and moving equipment.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety vests, gloves, and eye protection while on job sites.
  • May be required to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays depending on project demands and deadlines.
  • Work schedules vary depending on job site and weather conditions and may include early mornings or overtime.
