Job Description

VLK Architects is seeking a Specification Writer in any office location due to the high growth and expansion we are experiencing. The position will work as part of the project team to develop the project manual on their assigned projects. They will also assist in the review of drawings as a quality control measure and assist the project team in product/system research and implementation into the design.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and produces the Project Manual and Addenda for all project types including writing specifications and front-end documents for assigned projects for all offices.
  • Assists the project team with product and system research and implementation into the drawings and specifications, including review of product substitutions from Contractors, and generating Value Engineering (VE) items.
  • While writing specifications, reviews drawings for coordination issues and quality control, and brings this information back to the project team.
  • Works with the rest of the specification team in the upkeep of specification standards, owner design guidelines, and front-end documents.
  • Assists with the education of Architecture department staff by working with leadership to develop presentation topics relevant to firm practice, mentoring emerging professionals, work with Architecture Directors to oversee lunch and learn topics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited University preferred
  • Registered Architect preferred
  • LEED AP preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the Architecture field on commercial projects
  • Experience in K-12 and Higher Ed market sectors is preferred
  • Knowledgeable about comprehensive practice of architecture
  • Strong in assembling highly detailed specifications
  • Understanding of the construction industry
  • Demonstrated capability of working with project teams
  • Proficiency with relevant industry software, including Revit, Bluebeam, MS Office, and SpecLink
  • Critical, creative thinker
  • Thorough and precise with strong follow-up
  • Driven to get things done, achievement-oriented
