Founded in 2019, Fort Wayne FC (FWFC) is a soccer club based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and a member of the United Soccer League (USL), North America’s largest professional soccer organization that oversees the USL Championship, USL Super League, USL League One, USL League Two, USL W, and USL Academy. Position Summary

Fort Wayne FC is looking for an experienced Sporting Director to lead and manage all sporting operations related to the Cub. The Sporting Director will play a crucial role in upholding the club’s philosophy, vision and values and implementing a positive and supportive environment for all players and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Club’s foremost soccer expert
  • Provides informed recommendations on crucial matters such as strategy, coaching appointments and player recruitment
  • Capacity to inspire and motivate
  • Demonstrate conflict-resolution and team-building
  • Oversee scheduling, travel, housing, team kits, and other soccer-related operations with back office staff
  • Ensure effective communication between technical staff, medical staff, players, front office and Club ownership
  • Manage, analyze, and support all technical staff, including Head Coach, Assistant Coach, GK Coach, Performance Coach, Equipment Manager and physical therapist
  • Identify clear short-term and long-term goals/strategies and deliver feedback to maximize team performance
  • Direct oversight of prospective player identification/benchmark of local youth talent
  • Direct oversight to sign players, scouting, transfers and potential targets
  • Oversee player and sport operations staff contracts, negotiations and determination of compensation based on job description, experience and qualifications
  • Collaborate with Club leadership to identify and adhere to sports operations budgeting. Allocate resources effectively to meet the financial goals
  • Ensure safety standards and protocols are always followed. Upholds the league’s rules and regulations
  • Great leadership skills and ability to serve as Club spokesperson at designated events or with community stakeholders
  • Understands that the initial season will be under USL League One, with short-term future plans for an Academy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in physical education, sports or business management, or administrative leadership role within a professional soccer organization.
  • 5+ years of experience working with athletes, coaches and technical staff.
  • Experience managing player recruitment and scouting.
  • Thorough knowledge of the professional soccer environment, including US and international soccer markets, from youth academies to professional level
  • Experience with financial and industry data necessary to utilize Club resources.
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Exceptional organization to manage multiple programs, events and administrative tasks efficiently.
  • Understands need for confidential information regarding the Club.
  • Great communication skills; Must be able to make tough decisions and take responsibility for communication feedback clearly and effectively.
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

LOCATION: This position is fully based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
