Our Organization and Mission:
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the state’s lead agency for environmental management and stewardship - protecting our air, water and land. The vision of DEP is to create strong community partnerships, safeguard Florida’s natural resources and enhance its ecosystem.
The Work You Will Do:
The position is a senior environmental role focused on overseeing petroleum contamination cleanup efforts in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines. The employee will serve as the Contract Manager for the Forensic/Technical Services (Forensic/TSS) Contract within the Waste Management Division, responsible for developing and reviewing project scopes, purchase orders, and change orders for assigned sites. Key duties include managing contamination assessments and remedial actions for state-funded projects, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, and assisting site managers in negotiations and dispute resolutions.
Additionally, the employee will conduct verification sampling for site closures, oversee documentation, and review contractors' work for technical adequacy. Acting as a site manager, they will perform onsite inspections, recommend corrective actions, and monitor project efficiency and costs. The role also involves overseeing Notices of Contamination for affected properties and approving contractor invoices. Other tasks may be assigned by the Supervisor as needed.
The Difference You Will Make:
In this role, you will make a significant difference by ensuring effective and compliant remediation of petroleum-contaminated sites, ultimately protecting public health and the environment. Your leadership in managing the Forensic/Technical Services Contract will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of cleanup efforts, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. By overseeing contamination assessments and remedial actions, you will help restore impacted sites, reducing risks to communities and ecosystems.
The primary responsibility of managing petroleum contamination cleanup efforts supports FDEP's mission to protect, conserve, and manage Florida's environmental resources. By overseeing effective remediation projects, you contribute to safeguarding water quality, air quality, and public health.
How You Will Grow:
DEP encourages its leaders to constantly innovate and seek efficiencies. We believe in supporting and encouraging you as you take on important and often complex projects while offering you the opportunity to gain valuable experience quickly.
