Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position performs professional public health nutrition work at the Okaloosa County Health Department. It provides direct client services and coordinates nutrition services of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program.

 

Assess, develop, evaluate, implement, monitor and revise nutrition care plans for individual clients who are at low risk, high risk and medically high nutritional risk. Documents accurately, and according to WIC guidelines, the assessment of nutritional status and client centered goals, and follow up needed. Works with WIC leadership and clinic staff to ensure that appropriate nutritional care and WIC services are provided to clients.

 

Collects, records, and assesses anthropometrical and hematological, dietary, and medical data on women, infants and children. Certifies clients for participation in the WIC program in accordance with policies of the state WIC Program and regulations as stated in the HRSM 150-24. Consults with health care practitioners to determine nutrition or health needs and diet prescription of patient or client. Makes referrals as needed.

 

Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials to clients. and revises Nutrition Notebooks. May conduct surveys to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and determine availability of resources.  Conducts quality assurance audits on nutrition education and administrative functions quarterly. Summarizes and analyzes nutrition activities and services at regular intervals. Evaluates, develops, and recommends nutrition education materials.

 

Provides breastfeeding promotion, support, and counseling to prenatal and postpartum women. Works collaboratively with Breastfeeding Peer Counselors on education and promotion of breastfeeding benefits.

 

Performs all other duties as assigned in support of the Agency’s mission and vision.

  • Ability to work with a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to counsel clients individually as well as conduct group education classes.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Effectively communicate basic or non-technical information to coworkers and others.

 

Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a Dietician/Nutritionist in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 21M, Sections 48.001, 48.002, 48.003, Florida Administrative Code.
