Job Description

Job Summary:
The Recreation Supervisor - Sports is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, and evaluation of athletic programs, leagues, tournaments, and related activities within the district. This position serves as the primary liaison to community organizations and athletic affiliate groups while overseeing part-time staff, officials, instructors, and facility personnel. The Recreation Supervisor - Sports ensures quality programming, compliance with policies, and effective resource management to enhance community engagement and participation.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, coordinate, and manage athletic programs, leagues, tournaments, and community sports events.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with sports groups, fostering communication, scheduling meetings, and evaluating satisfaction levels.
  • Supervise and schedule part-time staff, officials, instructors, and facility attendants, ensuring adequate coverage and quality service.
  • Oversee facility and field reservations, coordinating with park maintenance staff to ensure proper field and facility upkeep.
  • Prepare and manage program budgets, monitor financial performance, and recommend pricing structures.
  • Oversee initial development, roll out, and then supervise concession operations in programs/areas as needed that isn’t covered under other entities. Includes researching and analyzing of options for the park.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote participation in sports programs and leagues.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff; provide orientation and ongoing development opportunities.
  • Ensure program safety and compliance with district policies, conducting accident investigations as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of program participation, financial data, and personnel information for analysis and reporting.
  • Research trends in athletic programming and implement improvements to enhance community engagement.
  • Oversee and ensure adherence to athletic affiliate agreements, including background checks for volunteers and compliance with established policies.
  • Provide excellent customer service to participants, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Address and resolve staff or participant concerns in accordance with district policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience and training.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in recreation or athletic program management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and recreation/facility management software preferred.
  • Certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED, or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and motivate staff.
  • Knowledge of budget development, financial oversight, and resource management.
  • Understanding of athletic facility specifications, sports programming, and event coordination.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours as required by program needs.
  • Valid Louisiana Driver’s License and ability to be insured.
  • Must pass a physical examination, drug test, driving record check, and criminal background investigation.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds regularly.
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching required.
  • Work performed in both indoor office environments and outdoor athletic facilities, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Regular travel between facilities is required.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
