Salary Range : Starting at $42,000 annualized with flexibility, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours : up to 40 hours per week, non-exempt.

Essential Functions Job Summary Responsible for accessing new archival donations to Special Collections and processing archival backlog, under the supervision of the Collections Management Archivist. Duties related to accessioning include surveying, appraising, and creating inventories of collection material; and following routine procedures to register new donations in collection management software. Duties related to processing include detailed arrangement and description of archival material and creation of EAD finding aids. Other collection management tasks include assisting with shelf reads and monitoring physical storage conditions.
This is a temporary position with expected funding for 2 years. This position may be extended or shortened based on availability of funds and/or departmental need. Core Responsibilities - Appraises and accessions to new archival donations and transfers, primarily in paper format.
- Follows departmental procedures to create, update, and maintain records in collection management software systems.
- Coordinates with the Collections Management Archivist to survey archival backlog and manage processing queues.
- Arranges and describes archival collections following departmental procedures and professional best practices.
- Creates and updates EAD finding aids.
- Performs basic preservation actions to protect at-risk materials.
- Coordinates with Digital Collections team on accessioning, preservation, and processing of born digital and hybrid collections.
- Oversees student workers or interns with accessioning and processing-related tasks.
- Occasionally assists other members of Special Collections with paging or returning boxes, fulfilling reference requests, monitoring patrons, and participating in outreach events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in History, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Library Science or related program or equivalent degree.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel between Main Campus and offsite storage locations.
- One year of experience working in an archives or research library with archival collections.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree from ALA accredited institution with coursework in archival administration.
- One year of experience processing archival collections.
- Experience creating EAD finding aids.
- Demonstrated experience with preservation practices, including identifying and documenting preservation concerns, encapsulating and/or interleaving fragile materials, and prioritizing material for reformatting.
- Experience working in a team-based environment in the field of Galleries, Libraries, Archives or Museums.
- Experience managing projects in the field of Galleries, Libraries, Archives, or Museums.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Proficient in Microsoft Operating System, Microsoft Office suite, and standard office equipment.
- Knowledge of professional best practices in archival accessioning and processing.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate efforts and collaborate with a variety of individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks.
- High level of initiative and self-motivation.
- Reliable and detail oriented.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
